We took an unfinished Dominion Valley basement and turned it into a full living space: an open rec area on water-resistant LVP, a wet bar and kitchenette, an island with built-in outlets, and a bedroom addition wrapped in custom millwork.
The basement started as bare concrete and unfinished walls - usable square footage that was not yet living space. We handled the work that turns one into the other: framing, drywall, electrical, and flooring.
For the floor we used water-resistant vinyl plank (LVP). Below grade, where moisture is always the concern, LVP holds up better than carpet or hardwood, and it still looks like wood underfoot.
One end of the basement became a full wet bar and kitchenette, so nobody has to head upstairs for a drink or a snack mid-movie. White shaker cabinets, a quartz counter, and a dark tile backsplash under a wood floating shelf. We ran the plumbing and electrical for a full-size refrigerator, a dishwasher, and an undermount sink, and it opens right out to the patio.
The basement also gained a bedroom, and this is where the millwork shows. We built picture-frame wall paneling across every wall and painted it a deep navy, then finished the room with a tiered chandelier and matching wall sconces. It reads more like a main-floor room than a basement bedroom.
This basement was finished by Anson Electrical & Remodeling, a family-owned company that has worked in Northern Virginia for 20+ years. Founder Brad Anson - a Virginia Master Electrician (License #2705178102) and Class B Builder - sets the standards the team works to, on every job, big or small.
A basement finish leans on framing, electrical, and finish carpentry together - the kind of multi-trade job a licensed electrical and remodeling company is set up to run with one in-house team. The job went the way all of ours do: a consultation, then a written proposal with scope, timeline, and cost before any work began, with permits pulled by us where the work required them and a final walkthrough at the end. A named project manager ran it, not anonymous subcontractors carrying the Anson name.
We hold a 5.0 rating on Google, and a good share of our remodeling work comes from repeat customers and the neighbors they send our way.
